How Dreams Can be A Power Tool for the Spiritual Seeker
Six Types of Dreams that can shift your perspective
The dreamworld is a landscape that you visit every night, with incredible meaning. If you are not using your dreams for “night work” then you are wasting a third of your life. “What does my dream mean?” is a question that probably has been asked since the dawn of man.
“Dreams are the royal road to the unconscious.”
― Sigmund Freud
When trying to understand and interpret your dream, it is important to understand the symbolism and emotions, yes — but it also important to recognize what type of dream you are having. When you know what kind of dream you have had, or wish to have, it becomes a power tool to accelerate your growth on the spiritual path.
Dreams can fall into six different types of dream categories:
Access Dreams: dreams that give you access to a particular feeling or memory that you have repressed or are not in touch with. You can recognize these dreams because they will often be about your childhood, a past life, or a location from your past. They are also reoccurring dreams, that is, if you have not addressed the issue at hand you will keep having this dream, or keep visiting the location of this dream.
Awareness Dreams: dreams that shed light on a particular process you are going through. Showing you perhaps a new perspective or pattern associated with your shadow work. You can recognize these dreams because you will usually already be in a shadow-work process, and the dream will bring up familiar feelings associated with the emotions you are "working through." They may show you, for example, other ways your “abandonment wound” is showing up at work or in relationships. These dreams often are accompanied by strong emotions.
Processing Dreams: dreams that allow you to "purge" or process the lessons or emotions of your work. You can recognize these dreams because they often end in a victory or death. They often happen during the nights when you are working through deep processes in therapy or meditation.
Prophesy Dreams: dreams that prepare you for a meaningful event in the future or show you the present moment (for example, an earthquake happening while you are dreaming on another continent). The content of these dreams are often very life-changing events: pregnancy, birth, accidents, illness, death, natural disasters. These dreams are often are rich in imagery and symbols.
Message Dreams: dreams that are special or divine messages from our guides or ancestors. These dreams will often feel "too real," as if you aren't dreaming. And the messages will be clear. Symbolism will play a minor role in the dream, and the messenger will make sense. If the message doesn't make sense, it is likely a different type of dream.
Harmonizing Dreams: dreams meant to allow your chakra centers or different bodies (energetic, spiritual, emotional, mental, etheric, or astral) to harmonize with each other. These dreams are often forgotten. But, when remembered contain visions of Angels, Divine Masters, Supreme Love, and Light. They may often cause you to walk up in the middle of the night at say, 1:11 am or 4:44 am.
Understanding the six types of dreams will help you interpret your dream. You can make these dreams your power tool by setting an intention before bed. Are you in need of Access? Harmonization? A divine message?
Tonight, when you lay your head on your pillow you can set the intention to have the type of dream you believe will best serve you. Your mind is always listening, and This can accelerate your growth on your spiritual path.
